LASIK Eye Surgery Preparation

Normal activity can be done prior to the LASIK Eye Surgery. The following is a list of preparations that should be noted and completed prior to the LASIK Eye Surgery.

  • Schedule at least one follow-up meeting with your eye doctor
  • Have transportation in place for after the surgery as you will not be able to drive after the LASIK Eye Surgery
  • Arrange to be away from work (if required) for up to four days following the LASIK Eye Surgery
  • Know the restrictions with regards to the medications you are taking – generally there are no restrictions but your eye surgeon will inform you if there should be any changes in your medication
  • You should not plan on driving any long distances for four days after your LASIK Eye Surgery
  • While LASIK Eye Surgery is an outpatient procedure, you may be required to stay overnight if the surgeon feels it is necessary in order to assist in the healing of the cornea
  • All facial makeup should be removed the day before the LASIK Eye Surgery
  • Contact lenses will have to be removed according to the guidelines provided in Presurgery-Examination

On the day of the surgery you should try to refrain from doing certain activities. The following is some advice in order to make the LASIK Eye Surgery comfortable for both you and the eye surgeon.

  • Try not to wear perfume or cologne or products with heavy fragrances
  • Wear comfortable clothing – do not wear wool or fleece which may generate lint
