LASIK Eye Surgery Follow-Up

After your LASIK Eye Surgery follow-up meetings are usually held with the eye surgeon. Follow-up meetings are scheduled with the eye surgeon in order to remove the eye patch and examine your cornea and vision. The follow-up meeting is usually scheduled for the day after the LASIK Eye Surgery. During the follow-up meeting the eye surgeon may prescribe to the patient antibiotic eye drops also known as “artificial tears”. It is also during this meeting that the eye surgeon will check to see how the cornea is healing and how successful the LASIK eye surgery was.

Based on the eye surgeon’s analysis, he/she will also let you know when you can resume the following activities:

  • driving
  • wearing makeup
  • playing contact sports
  • swimming
  • using a whirlpool or hot tub

Additionally, to fully protect your eye and aid in the healing process you will need to wear the eye shield at night for about four weeks.

In some cases the doctor may request a second follow-up meeting which would take place seven days after the LASIK eye surgery. Depending on the patients healing progress and the eye surgeon, other meetings may be scheduled during the six months after the LASIK Eye Surgery.
