About LASIK Eye Surgery

LASIK is the procedure that is performed on the eye in order to improve a person’s vision. The LASIK procedure is performed in order to eliminate a person’s dependence on corrective lenses – whether it is eye glasses or contacts.

LASIK stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis which is a form of refractive laser eye surgery which uses a laser to reshape the cornea. Through the procedure the surgeon reshapes the cornea which adjusts the focus of light on the retina. The overall result is improved vision. Read more about the procedure here.

The procedure is mainly used for people with nearsightedness, farsightedness or certain other vision problems but certain requirements need to be met before a procedure can take place. Read more about the requirements here.

The surgery is an outpatient procedure. This means there is no overnight stay involved. The procedure usually takes 10 to 20 minutes for each eye. More time is taken with the initial preparations and the follow-up meetings. Meetings with your surgeon before the surgery consist of the presurgery-examination and ensuring the procedure is right for you.
